Telecast
Media Libraries in Kerala: An evaluative study based on survey
Telecast
media is also sometimes referred to as the "mainstream media", due to
its general tendency of choosing to prominent, yet trivial, stories, which will
be of interest to a general audience, whilst ignoring controversial or
intellectually stimulating news. This trend is attributed to the fact that
telecast media, though used to provide a service to the public in keeping them
updated, is essentially a business and will naturally do what it must to sell
its products and services. Today telecast media has become one of the main
sources of news, information and entertainment for the general public, and over
the past century, telecast media has become a globally huge industry.
A
telecast media library is organized for use and maintained by an individual
body, an organization, a corporation, or a private authority, which owns and
operates a television channel. Collections and services of the library may be
intended for use by mass who choose not to — or cannot afford to —
purchase an extensive collection themselves, who need material no individual
can reasonably be expected to have, or who require professional assistance in
their specific areas of work. In addition to providing materials, telecast
media libraries also provide the services of librarians who are experts at
finding and organizing information, documents and at interpreting employment
needs. In this context it is worth examine who contribute the user community of
a telecast media library and its horrible groupings.
So the name focusing the study of
telecasting media libraries in Kerala covers the libraries of all kinds of
satellite private televisions channels and the Growth pattern and general
background of telecast media companies’ vis-à-vis libraries, the nature of
these libraries in terms of their collection, maintenance, facilities,
operations, systems and services. The information behaviour and status of the
users of television media libraries, the relationship between LIS education and
TV media libraries, the willingness for library resource sharing, the
techniques, technologies, systems and equipment being used by libraries which
otherwise are not generally used by traditional book libraries, finally the
State and status of television media library personnel and the problems and
suggestions recipients the librarians and the, library users are evaluated
this.
Scope of the study
The
study covers the management of the private satellite telecast media libraries
in Kerala and the evaluative study of the topic is mainly focussing that the
study of telecast media libraries was not conducted yet in any authentic
format; and as such the working environment is really unknown to the
informatics community. The suitability of the methodology adopted to find out
information from the various telecast media in Kerala especially in the private
sector; and the criteria for evaluation of the media library system are also
discussed. The working pattern, collection maintenance, various services,
duties and speciality details may be useful to the scholars, students,
learners, institutions, and organizations. The investigator being a telecast
media person all relevant aspects so I can easily manage and cognitively the
studied in depth.
Title of the study
The
Title of the study is “Telecast Media Libraries in Kerala: An Evaluative
Study based on Survey”.
Definition of
Key Terms
q Telecast
Media Library: Is a special kind of library which is intended to
support the activities and programmes of a telecast channel generally and its
individual workers particularly by providing various information sources and
records as are required or found relevant to their job.
q
Evaluative Study: Is to
consider in detail and subject to an analysis on the bases of appropriate
parameters to discover essential features by an appraisal of the value of a
particular thing, product or services. Evaluative study is the critical
assessment, in as objective a manner as possible, of the degree to which a
service or its component part fulfil the stated goals of an institution or
services as the case maybe.
Objectives
ü
To identify the professional pattern of organization
and functioning of the telecasting media libraries.

for storing or communicating information and data, here we attempt to evaluate
the media library system and its various services. The following workings are
chosen for this study.
ü
The working styles and pattern of all telecast media
libraries are standardized.
ü
Some of the leading telecast media libraries are
server based, but the archiving method is interchangeable.
ü
The main strong point is forcing out that the average
of 40% the investment goes to the library division.
ü Issue,
return, stock maintanance, preservation, classification, retrieval, staffing,
and other working pattern are entirely different from that of an ordinary
library.
Methodology
Here we adopting various methods
for the study, mainly the survey method by questionnaires, direct interviews of
eminent media persons and document services including e-resources through
Internet search.
Limitation
The study about the media library
is not comprehensive, as the data or information about media library available
in the journals, books, or even in the cyberspace is inadequate. A media
library-working environment is absolutely busy, so the relevant data and the
level of co-operation may be variant and it may affect the depth of the study.
Each media is located in defferent area so the get through is task oriented.
The study is altering through entertainment programme channel libraries, so the
style and working pattern are entirely defferent from a news based channel
library so we see the major divergence in all gumption.
Organization of the
study
The study
is organized under six chapters as follows:
Chapter I: Introduction
In
this chapter a brief description of the whole study is provided together with
all the necessary preliminary information.
